Mercury Retrograde! Mercury Retrograde! Mercury Retrograde! Uh-oh! Not again! (For immediate Mercury Retrograde support, scroll down to the links below)
Because we’re currently facing another approaching cycle of Mercury Retrograde (March 12th until April 4th), I thought it would be useful to create a Support Page full of references on how to cope during this time and make the best use of it.
In the modern world more are hearing this once somewhat obscure phrase and concept on certain T.V. shows, casual conversations at lunch, or in the work office. Sensational media combined with the phenomenon of Mercury Retrograde itself has made astrology itself infamous for something that very few people who aren’t actually astrologers truly even understand.
One thing that many of us agree on if we’re familiar with name of this happening: It seems to affect lots of things when it happens, and lots of sentient beings too, although Mercury does seem to have an affinity for electronic devices and automobiles. In short, lots of things go wonky, and if you want them to go THIS way they tend to go THAT way. This Mercury Retrograde thingamajig happens 3x a year, for over 3 weeks at a time.
To be clear – this page is not about blaming Mercury for what goes wrong. I’m not blaming any problems on a planet for appearing to move backwards in the sky. This concern and this page is about understanding what’s going on, and going with the flow instead of against it.
I have also created a Mercury Retrograde support group page on Facebook that is open to anyone seeking help with Mercurian Retro snafus, or those would like to share their positive Mercury experiences. We need to highlight the positive so that these times becomes more positive for us! It is possible to even look forward Mercury Retrograde rather than dread it if we know just how it may benefit us and others. To receive updates and participate in the group just “Like” the page, from your Facebook account -
A Sanskrit Mantra for Mercury
The use of mantra can aid us in transforming almost every aspect of our lives. With dedication and repetition, certain mantras can build fields of energy that assist in healing, shield us from danger, and attract prosperity and beneficial experiences. There several mantras to the planet and deity of Mercury, but I will share the simplest one here. This mantra may best be started on a Wednesday, which is governed by Mercury. I would suggest starting from the 7th of March before Mercury actually goes Retrograde (March 12th of 2012), reciting the mantra daily at least until April 4th when Mercury goes Direct. It may be even more beneficial to continue on until the 15th of March. Choosing a special time each day for 5 minutes devoted to chanting the mantra can be effective, as can reciting this as you drive, vacuum, or shower. Results with this mantra will vary from person to person, but overall it is likely to ease the negative effects of Mercury Retrograde and help to accentuate the positive aspects. I would enjoy hearing feedback from those who try it!
Om Aim Bum Budhaya Namaha
Pronunciation: Om I’m Bum (like “put”, a soft “oo”) Bood-hah-yah Nahm-ah-ha
This translates as “Om and salutations to the presiding spirit of Mercury”. The Bum and the seed sound of Aim is not always added but may give greater power to the mantra. Aim is the bija mantra of Saraswati – the feminine personification of the arts, music, and knowledge of all kinds, and it denotes the power of articulation, guiding and teaching, which are all functions of Mercury.
Mercury is said to have governance over speech, mind, and communication. Saraswati is a goddess and feminine principle widely worshipped in India, that is known to preside over sacred sound (mantra & music), speech, mind, knowledge and education of all kinds. When we petition her in the form of mantra, we are expanding our minds and inner capacity to cultivate and hold wisdom, which may prove useful in just about any situation we may find ourselves in.
