With the upcoming Blood Moon eclipse at 4 degrees of Aries on September 27th we will have come full circle with a rare set of four eclipses within the axis of Aries and Libra that began last year, representing a struggle between our sense of autonomy, self-empowerment, discovery, sovereignty and the ability to relate well with others and cooperate. It highlights a balancing act of being able to compromise if, when, and where necessary without compromising one’s true self or integrity. It is about understanding personal motivations and how they intersect or clash with the motives of others.
These are the dates of this blood moon series, so that you can look back and recall what may have been taking place in your life during, just prior to and in between these times. Although the moments pass quickly during an eclipse, its energetic effects are carried many years into the future.
- April 15, 2014 – Lunar Eclipse 25 degrees Libra
- October 7, 2014 – Lunar Eclipse 15 degrees Aries
- April 4, 2015 – Lunar Eclipse 14 degrees Libra
- September 27, 2015 – Lunar Eclipse 4 degrees Aries
The lunar eclipse falls in Aries, and yet there is a huge focus in its polar opposite sign Libra, currently occupied by a stellium that includes the Sun, North Node, Juno, Black Moon Lilith, and Mercury Retrograde. Some relationships are growing stronger through this period and some are finally falling apart as their numerous, almost irreparable dysfunctions are revealed.
The ruling planets of Aries and Libra are Mars and Venus, who as deities knew no in-between phase with their intense passions. Sweet lovers or bitter enemies, they merged ecstatically or fought fiercely with each other. What we seek within their axis is a middle ground, where all feelings that arise are acknowledged but not necessarily acted upon. We develop the capacity to stand back and witness our emotions, to curtail our reactions rather than remaining hostage to them, as helpless as infants.
Mars has moved out of Leo as of September 24th, approaching Jupiter in Virgo and bringing a wave of fresh new energy and focus to goals and activities. Mars and Venus will join together for a third time this year on November 2nd, the first two times being February 21st and August 31st. That gives us one more chance to “kiss and make up” within these next several weeks if there is a nearly broken relationship that is worth saving.
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac symbolizing the beginning of a cycle, a way of being, an exploration of the world or of oneself. A lunar eclipse here indicates there are both significant beginnings and endings underway. Certain relationships or cycles within them have come to completion, or closure. Now, on to the next chapter, the next phase of relating whether to another, or specifically to oneself, or both. In any situation we may find ourselves in there is a resurfacing of selfhood that we may either choose to embrace or shun. We are reminded of what makes us tick aside from all of the demands and influences of others.
Most of us have become creatures of habit, accustomed to taking actions that revolve around moving, living and breathing in default mode on a daily basis, unaware of our own intuitive and creative abilities. We go around doing the best we can to please others and obey laws that were constructed for us before we were born. Many people become frozen, almost terrified when they are asked the question “What do YOU want to do?”
So, what do you want to do? What stands in your way? If you are the one standing in your own way, are you willing to risk the position you believe yourself to hold currently? Are you willing to leap into the unknown for the sake of self-discovery, new adventures, and perhaps enlightenment and liberation?
Asteroid Vesta, named after the goddess of the sacred flame is conjunct the lunar eclipse, heightening our self-determination, self-respect, and the self knowledge to make decisions that support personal success and fulfillment. Since many of us are used to disowning or disrespecting aspects of self for the sake of a relationship to another person, group or society in general, there is potential for a powerful awakening and reclaiming of long-lost parts of our psyche that were buried due to trauma or abuse – what is called soul-retrieval in shamanic terms.
Aries is ruled by the fire element, so rituals involving fire are recommended at this time, honoring its powers of destruction and creation. These could be for examples in the form of bonfires, puja ceremonies, or a quiet candle blessing at home…
The Sabian symbol for this Full Moon is A Triangle With Wings
According to Dane Rudhyar, this is “the symbol of the desire to reach a higher level of existence, of pure aspiration or devotion, of bhakti…a NEW DIMENSION of being is envisioned mobilizing creative endeavors.”
Shine bright as the starlight being of infinite potential you originally came here to be, before parents, society, institutions, and other constructs got in the way of your self expression.
